At Blue Aqua, our focus and expertise are on three shrimp species:(1) White Shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei), (2) Tiger Shrimp (Penaeus monodon), and (3) Kuruma Shrimp (Marsupenaeus japonicus). Broodstock is a technical term for parent shrimp — a group of mature animals used in aquaculture for breeding purposes. In this area, we have Marsupenaeus japonicus, commonly known as Kuruma shrimp or Japanese tiger prawn. Kuruma shrimp is known as one of the most expensive shrimp species on the market. Newly hatched shrimp larvae, or nauplii, will be transferred to a hatchery where the baby shrimps are reared. Once they are ready, we move them to the nursery to be nurtured to development. It takes about 11 to 12 days for the life cycle of the shrimp, from egg to larval stage. We are the only farm in Singapore that is practicing a super-intensive shrimp culture with one of the highest stocking densities in the world. The average production of a traditional shrimp farm is about 1 to 2 kg per square-meters. Our farm, on the other hand, can harvest between 15 and 20 kg per square-meters. This is due to the implementation of our patented technology, the Mixotrophic system. Our system manages the water quality at optimum levels with the use of microorganisms. We farm naturally with no chemicals, antibiotics, or additives. That's why our shrimps taste so fresh compared to other suppliers on the market. We harvest and deliver on the same day, from farm to you in just 30 minutes!
